The storied history of Grey Oaks began almost a century ago. When Barron Gift Collier bought Useppa Island in 1911, he began to fulfill his dream of creating a paradise on Florida's last frontier. By the 1920s, he had become the largest landowner in Florida with the purchase of 1.3 million acres that later became Collier and Hendry Counties, as well as 90 percent of Marco Island. Barron Collier's dream was now well underway as he continued to develop and beautify the land, later joined by his son, Barron Collier, Jr.
The fairways are lush and the experience is memorable.In 1976, the Collier County Commission paid special tribute to the Colliers by recognizing the philanthropy of this dedicated and far-sighted family.
