The
Kiawah Island Lifestyle
The
Kiawah Island lifestyle is an exceptional way of
life that has evolved with care and guidance
since the Island first began development in
1976.
Residents enjoy 10 miles of flawless
Atlantic Beach, five outstanding championship
golf courses, two tennis centers, the private
Kiawah Island Club, plus a full range of outdoor
activities. Also, with historic Charleston just
a short drive away, the cultural and
recreational options are endless.
Golf
Amid Kiawah Island's uncommon beauty,
The Kiawah Island Club is an exclusive private
membership club for property owners with an
unmatched collection of amenities and
distinctive venues. Its ‘crown jewels’ are its
two championship golf courses, offering Kiawah’s
only private golf experience.

Choose from seven courses including the River
and Cassique Courses.
The River Course, which was
designed by one of today’s premier golf
architects, Tom Fazio, weaves through maritime
forest and along the oyster banks and marsh
grasses of the Kiawah River and Bass Pond.
The Club's second course,
Cassique is the first solo-designed course in
America by five-time British Open winner Tom
Watson. Named for a Kiawah Native American chief
during the 17th century, the course
is positioned along the Kiawah River where it
meets the Atlantic Ocean. Cassique represents an
exceptional marriage between its combination of
the characteristics of a classic British Island
links course with an extraordinary Carolina
Lowcountry setting.
Kiawah is also home to five
more award-winning golf courses including The
Ocean Course, which will play host to the 2012
PGA Championship at Kiawah. Known to be one of
the toughest courses in North America, the Ocean
Course is located on the eastern-most end of
Kiawah, and boasts more seaside holes than any
other course in the Northern Hemisphere.

Environmental
Development Philosophy
Kiawah’s phenomenal success can, to a large
extent, be attributed to the developers’
extraordinary commitment to long-range planning.
From the beginning, the development philosophy
included a deep devotion to letting nature have
its way.

Nature was accounted for during Kiawah Island
construction.
Before development began in
that late 1970s, planners were sent in to
analyze and document the physical
characteristics of the Island. A master plan was
created that balanced the social, recreational,
and commercial needs of the Island’s residents,
while also maintaining the Island’s natural
habitat and beauty.
