The National Golf Association's Hooters Professional Golf Tour, presented by Hooters of America and Naturally Fresh Foods, returns to Savannah Lakes Village on April 26-May 2 for The 2010 Savannah Lakes Village Classic, 2010 presented by McCormick County.
A portion of the proceeds from The 2010 Savannah Lakes Village Classic will go to benefit The Ed Meyer First Responders. The event will be the second major tournament of the season with a purse of $250,000 with an estimated $40,000 going to the winner. The Best in Affordable Lakefront and Country Club Living
The Savannah Lakes Village Tara Golf Club (circa 1993) offers a variety of man-made and natural hazards to challenge the weekend player as well as the low handicapper. The course layout forms a figure-eight around the country club and parallels Lake Thurmond.

The Tara Golf Club overlooks the course and pristine landscaping.

The 18^th and ninth greens meet behind the clubhouse to form a shared green, which also overlooks the lake, all providing a spectacular view from the dining room. The Tara Golf Club measures 7,002 yards from the back tees and features 81 sand bunkers. The renovated and re-contoured tifeagle greens are surrounded by Zoysia grass and Bermuda fairways.

For a change of scenery and a different challenge, try the Monticello golf course. The club opened in the spring of 2000 and serves as the second private golf course for Savannah Lakes Village. A modern lakes course with heavily bunkered rolling terrain and numerous rock formations, the course features water hazards on nine of its 18 holes.

The Monticello golf course measures 7,032 yards from the back tees and features 76 sand bunkers. Monticello features Crenshaw/L93 bentgrass on the greens enclosed by Emerald Zoysia collars and bunker surrounds and 419 Bermuda grass on the fairways.

There are also excellent practice facilities and learning facilities available. These facilities include multiple practice bunkers, pitching greens, putting greens, and spacious driving ranges, with instruction programs available for beginners to advanced players from both PGA and LPGA members.

And for The Masters Tournament fans, Augusta, GA, home of The Masters, is only a short drive from the Village.

The Freshwater Coast
Savannah Lakes Village is located on the "Freshwater Coast" of South Carolina on Strom Thurmond Lake. Lake Thurmond is one of the largest inland bodies of water in the South. The lake stretches nearly 64 miles up the Savannah River and covers approximately 70,000 acres.

Brilliant sunsets are a regular treat.

Pines and hardwoods cover the lake's irregular 1,200-mile shoreline, adding to the natural beauty of the reservoir. While cruising along the lake, you will find more than 100 islands just above the surface that were created when the lake was filled in 1954. You will also find a diversity of plant and animal types, including some endangered species.

In addition to Lake Thurmond, Savannah Lakes Village is also centrally located between the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Coast. Whether you enjoy witnessing mother nature's grand display of autumn colors in the Great Smoky Mountains, or strolls along the sandy beaches of Myrtle Beach, Charleston, or Hilton Head Island, these attractions are just a short drive away.

Natural wonders abound with nearby state parks and forests.

South Carolina’s Hickory Knob and Baker Creek State Parks border the east bank of Lake Thurmond. Elijah Clark State Park borders the west bank of Lake Thurmond in Lincolnton, GA, and Hamilton Branch State Park is just south of the Village in McCormick County. These parks are in addition to the numerous public campgrounds, boat ramps and forests that are owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
